‘Shrek’ studio joins Wal-Mart disc-to-digital plan
DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc., the maker of "Shrek," ''Madagascar" and "Kung Fu Panda," is teaming up with Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to help people convert their old DVDs into an online movie library.
Jeffrey Katzenberg, DreamWorks' chief executive, says that the new "Disc to Digital" service will help consumers adapt to technological change. The service launches Monday at Walmart stores nationwide. Read more...
uTorrent Adds Android, iOS, PS3 and Xbox Integration
The latest alpha release of uTorrent now supports integration with a variety of devices including the iPhone, iPad, PS3, Xbox 360 and Android hardware. This allows users to quickly sync downloaded content to these devices. Additional capability to convert videos and audio to playable files will become available later, but only to users of the upcoming paid version of the BitTorrent client.
With more than 100 million active users a month and a market share of nearly 50 percent, uTorrent is without doubt the most-used BitTorrent client.
Despite the success story that it is, the uTorrent development team hasn’t been sitting still in recent years. The user interface is continuously being updated and new features are launched on a frequent basis, such as the BitTorrent App studio.
Today we can add another feature to the list, as BitTorrent quietly rolled out support for external devices in the latest uTorrent alpha release. Google to help developers adapt their Android apps for tablets
Google is organizing a series of Android Developer Labs (ADLs) that aim to help developers convert their existing smartphone applications to run on Honeycomb-based tablets, it said in a blog post on Monday.
The first lab is today in Bangalore. The rest will take place in the U.S., starting with two in Seattle on Aug. 15 and 16, and then in New York on Aug. 23 and 24. The last lab will be in Los Angeles on Sept. 2, according to the blog post.
The labs are specifically aimed at optimizing Android applications for tablets, according to Google. The company will, for example, detail how to redesign a smartphone user interface to take advantage of the tablet's larger screen size. The goal is for a developer to bring an application into the lab and "leave equipped to make it into one that makes Android tablet users smile," Google writes. Read more...
