Google launches Nexus 7 tablet, Jelly Bean and spherical Nexus Q device for home use
As expected, Google on Wednesday announced a $199, 7-in. tablet called Nexus 7 that will run on Android 4.1, dubbed Jelly Bean.
Built with Asus, the tablet can be ordered starting today on Google Play, and will ship in the U.S. and three other countries in mid-July, Google said.
Google described the tablet as principally a conduit for Google Play, its cloud-based repository for Google apps and movies, books and other content. Nexus 7 is "built for Google Play," said Hugo Barra, product management director for Android at Google. Read more...

Startup Agari debuts security services to stop fake email, phishing attacks
Startup Agari debuts today with cloud-based email security services aimed at allowing enterprises and e-commerce companies to identify and block fake and spoofed email exploiting their legitimate business domain names to conduct scams and phishing attacks.
Facebook and YouSendIt are among the early adopters of the Agari technology, according to Patrick Peterson, founder and CEO of the company, which is based in Palo Alto.
"They understood how email identity is being abused," says Peterson, who adds the Agari service allows Facebook, for example, to set policy controls and automatically block fake email attempting to exploit Facebook's legitimate domain names used for email. Read more...
SOS Online launches cloud backup for mobile devices, Facebook
SOS Online Backup today announced a cloud-based backup service for mobile devices, desktop systems -- and Facebook.
The company said it expects to start backing up Twitter and Gmail data in December.
The new SOS Online Backup Home 5.0 product, which allows users to back up data on five or fewer personal computers under a single license, includes SOS Social Backup, a new Facebook app that stores social media data, such "friend" contact information, photo albums, and message threads.
"In case your account becomes corrupted, not to mention when you want to shut down your Facebook account and move to Google+ or LinkedIn, you can take all your contacts and photos with you," said SOS Online Backup CEO Ken Shaw. Read more...
