Google silences podcast app Listen, disbands Team tool
Google has announced another cull of services it reckons won't be missed, including Google Listen.
Podcast finder and playback utility Google Listen is among software axed by the web advertising giant, as there are plenty of other podcast apps available in the company's online Play store.
"People now have access to a wider variety of podcast apps, so we've discontinued Listen," Max Ibel, director of engineering at Google, said in a blog post.
Listen users can get their existing subscriptions through the program, but they won't be able to use the app to find new stuff.
Two lots of business services are also getting the chop: Google Apps for Teams and Google Video for Business.
The teams app was introduced in 2008, and allowed people to collaboratively use Google Apps for editing work documents. Ibel said that the team software was "not as useful as we originally anticipated", so the firm will convert folks to personal Google accounts and get rid of the tool.
Video for Business let companies and schools upload videos for "internal communication". All those files are now going over to Google Drive, "which has similar storage and sharing capabilities".
The firm also said that it was going to cut down the number of blogs it used to talk about its products. The advertising behemoth has more than 150 Pravdas, and those that aren't used enough will be canned. Others will be slipped into existing websites.
This time last month Google was busy decommissioning iGoogle, its home-page personalisation thing.
