Android Jelly Bean won’t get Flash Player
As part of the slow death of Adobe's Flash Player, the company has announced it won't be making a certified version for Android's new 4.1 OS – aka Jelly Bean.
Adobe said on its blog that it won't be developing Flash for Android 4.1. The software company said it will also start taking steps to phase the player out of the Google Play Store by limiting access to updates to just those folks who already have it on their mobes.
"Devices that do not have Flash Player already installed are increasingly likely to be incompatible with Flash Player and will no longer be able to install it from the Google Play Store after August 15," the firm warned.
Adobe announced in November last year that it wants to ditch Flash and move to HTML5 because it reckons its the best solution for browsers across different smartphones.
The firm did do a version of Flash for the last Android upgrade Ice Cream Sandwich, but it's now pulling the plug on development for little green mobes.
Once current ICS users upgrade to the new OS, Adobe recommends they uninstall the Flash Player entirely. Devs will still have access to an archive of versions, but they won't be getting any upgrades from Google Play either.
