“Anonymous” Hackers Attack Monsanto, Tar Sands Oil Companies
The notorious activist hacking group "Anonymous" has launched two new campaigns championing a pair of green causes -- helping U.S. farmers earn the right to label their food as "GMO-free" and working to obstruct the expansion of the devastating tar sands oil project in Alberta, Canada. Monsanto, the giant biotech firm, has confirmed it was the victim of a large-scale hacking attack. And the oil companies are next, Anonymous says. Read more...
France Tracks Down 18 Million File-Sharers
Starting October last year French Internet users have been receiving letters as part of the three-strikes system built-in to the controversial Hadopi anti-piracy legislation. This week the agency responsible for the warnings gave out details on the scope of the operation. In the last 9 months 18 Million file-sharers were tracked, but due to limited capacity ‘only’ 470,000 warnings were sent out to first-time offenders.
Under France’s new Hadopi law, alleged copyright infringers will be hunted down systematically with the ultimate goal of decreasing piracy. Alleged offenders are identified by their Internet providers and will be reported to a judge once they have received three warnings. Read more...
Google+ Technological Details
Google Plus, the social network from Google, is built mostly on Java and JavaScript while Hangouts, its video conferencing framework, uses a client-server approach.
Google Plus or Google+, the long awaited social network from Google, has recently made its debut, being available to a limited number of users based on invitation. The project started in early 2010 and it was done behind the scenes with little or no information available on its underlying technology. Joseph Smarr, a technical lead on Google+ and former CTO at Plaxo, unveiled some of the network’s technical details in an AnyAsk interview without being very specific. We contacted Smarr for further detail on Google+’s architecture, but he declined to offer more information, promising more will be released in the not-so-distant future. Read more...
